WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

Reporting to the Manager, Electronics & Embedded Systems, your role as Junior Embedded Systems Engineer will provide excellence in delivering solutions to technical challenges brought by clients and internal projects. The position is responsible to develop industry leading, market-ready technology solutions.

The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Understand and participate in the engineering design process to support new product design activities, and service support engineering.
  • Learn new technologies and skillsets to adept to client needs and provide innovative engineering solutions.
  • Develop, test, and debug firmware for embedded systems using industry best practices.
  • Design and develop electronic hardware, including schematics and PCB layouts, ensuring compliance with performance, reliability, and manufacturing standards.
  • Assist in the troubleshooting of prototype product functionality.
  • Interact with clients to translate customer needs to project requirements.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
  • Maintain and support a positive environment for learning and growth within the team.

THE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE YOU BRING TO THE TEAM:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Experience working with firmware in embedded C on a variety of microcontrollers.
  • Firmware architecture experience, including bare metal, embedded Linux, or RTOS like FreeRTOS or Zephyr.
  • Schematic capture and PCB layout design using Altium.
  • Debugging embedded systems by using common lab equipment, such as multimeters and oscilloscopes.
  • Knowledge of common communication interfaces, for example I2C, SPI, CAN, USB, Ethernet, and RS-485.
  • Knowledge of common IoT interfaces such as Bluetooth, Wifi, cell and LoRa.
  • Familiarity with higher level languages such as Python.
  • Must be licensed, or eligible for licensure, as a professional engineer (or engineer-in-training) with Engineers Nova Scotia, and must maintain their licensure in good standing for the duration of their employment as an engineer.
  • Ability to obtain controlled goods and reliability clearance.

WHERE YOU WILL BE WORKING:

Our office is located in the heart of Spryfield, but more specifically, at 264 Herring Cove Road in Suite #100. If you know the Spryfield area – we are right across the street from Sobeys, close to the ever-increasing options for interesting lunches, and right next to beautiful lakes, forests, and trails.

HOURS OF OPERATION:

To the public, we answer questions and attend meetings between 9am -5pm. Our corporate culture values work/life balance and are proud to offer staff the ability to alter their start and end times of their workday. We recognize that not all individuals work most productively during a 9am-5pm schedule, therefore, we are happy to accommodate to your most productive working hours. As long as you complete your 8 hours of work and attend scheduled meetings – we support your altered workday! We also have several remote desk options within the Innovation Ecosystem (Dalhousie ideaHUB, C.O.V.E., ThePIER, Ignite Labs).
